We rolled in here after a late soccer game. My son was craving Chinese food and this place is double bill - Japanese and Chinese. I suspect, however, that our palates aren't generally trained enough to understand (or even care about the differences other than Japanese = sushi and Chinese = Sweet and Sour Chicken). We were greeted and seated instantly. Our water cups were filled (and kept full throughout the night). My son and I both ordered iced tea and oddly, you only get one serving, no refills during the meal. Our meals were standard Chinese food, served quickly and efficiently. We boxed the leftovers (because there was an ample amount of food). Decent enough place. If we go back, I am definitely going to try the California roll. The waitress suggested it, other Yelpers mentioned it and someone near us ordered when we were there. I still think that the Szechuan House in Lutherville is better, albeit much busier.

The food is delicious, I go there once a week on the average. I'm on the first name basis with the staff. Great place, good food and the service is first class, I highly recommend the General Tao's Chicken one of my favorites. Frank

When I first ordered from this place, I got some of their sushi rolls and they were delicious. Ordered sushi again and wasn't disappointed. However, getting delivery from them this time around was decent at best. I ordered the Kung Pao Chicken with fried rice and spare ribs. Kung Pao Chicken wasn't sweet at all and what's worse is that it barely had any flavor. Same goes for the spare ribs. It was some of the driest spare ribs I've ever had at any Chinese restaurant and it was flavorless. The fried rice wasn't bad tho! Delivery was fast and the prices are reasonable. You see the reviews about this place, this place is known for it's sushi. Their Chinese might not be up to par with the sushi unless I got the wrong dishes. I've been here a few times and only once was I a bit disappointed. Other than that, this place still deserves a 4.

I'm generally not a fan of Chinese food and I especially don't like the type that this place offers which is the 'Chinese food for Americans'. Place seems to have the same recipes as the old owners of China Taste so if you're into that then you'll be just fine with this place, however I prefer not to have my food taste like candy-corn-starchy-fried-gooey whatever so naturally I can't possibly give any points for their mostly typical run of the mill style Chinese food. Real disappointment is sushi bar as their sushi comes out warm. I. DO. NOT. WANT. WARM. SUSHI. Plus the sushi menu is laid out poorly and hard to find what you want. And finally the layout of this place is just all wrong. I'd say skip it nothing special here.

My go to for Chinese food and Sushi in Perry Hall. They make great food and have done so for a decade. The only downside is the decor inside is really outdated, teal and pink curtains/table cloth from the 80's but you're not going here for looks and it's a clean spot so that's not an issue for me. I'm a frequent customer and plan to stay one.

Good food and great waiters. The sushi is excellent. They also deliver - which is helpful!

I am never let down by the food. My love for Chinese cuisine is always satisfied here, dine in or take out. The sushi bar is also great.

slightly closer to a 3.5 The egg rolls are the best I ever had. Not greasy and made with very fresh ingredients. Good reheat factor too. I am also a fan of the asparagus and corn soup. You get a good portion for the price and with a little hot oil it is divine. I tried a couple of the vegetarian dishes and was pleased. I think their version of general tso's is sub average. the chicken has a very thick and hard outer fried shell - not too enjoyable. I tried another chicken dish (sha sha chicken?) and it also wasn't the best. I think the prices are reasonable. The one time I dined in, I thought the waiter was a little rude and he seemed "inconvenienced". i felt uncomfortable asking for things like more napkins or duck sauce.

Solid. Hasn't knocked my socks off, but their food is astoundingly consistent in its decent quality -and this is key- it's never appalled, insulted or injured me. Plus, they deliver. In my mind that equals four stars, but awarded in a low-key fashion - without fanfare, fireworks, or frenzy. The Orient is our safe bet, and a frequent choice when we want reasonable low-hassle food. There is better sushi out there, but it's a matter of degree and it doesn't come with the convenience factor. They do an excellent job of packaging things up for delivery - grouping hot stuff, sashimi, and rolls separately. They'll even include packets of low-sodium soy sauce if we ask. I wish the contents of the sashimi assortment would change periodically, but that's a small gripe. The food is usually delivered about an hour after we call in our order. We've eaten in a few times, but their dining room is unremarkable and isn't a huge draw. And besides, they deliver!

Suprisingly The Orient has great sushi. I love the way they prepare their standard Chinese fare also. They always throw in a bunch of free sodas. One of my favorites.

This is a great place to eat lunch, dinner or sushi. The lunch special menu is even in effect during the weekends which is a pleasant surprise. The sushi is about the best you will find anywhere locally, if in fact you know what good sushi is. The wait staff is always super friendly and the parking is more than adequate. You should not leave hungry, but just in case there is a friendly's ice cream right next door.

Tried this place for the first time... Not impressed. Gen. Tso chicken was just large chunks of soggy BBQ chicken. Not crispy at all. Website was just a phone number had to get the menu from a foody website. Sushi was flavorless. Got 3 packets of soy sauce for 3 large rolls and then wasabi and ginger were wrapped in a piece of celephane. Crab wontons were so rubbery that it was difficult to take a bite. Not that it matters but when obviously you ordered $40 of food it was not for one person but only got one fortune cookie. Disappointed for the amount paid and poor food.the orient

we were looking for a new sushi place having recently moved to the area. The Orient had gotten some good reviews so we decided to give it a try. We sat at the sushi bar and waited what seemed like forever to be presented with a sushi list that had zero descriptions of what the rolls were. A waiter poured us water but didnt offer any other beverages.. no tea, no pop, no wine???? the sushi was also unremarkable. Not at all what we were expecting. Maybe its a better chinese place than sushi place? I certainly hope so. But I wouldnt come back, either way.

I'm super picky about my Chinese food. This is the best Chinese food I've ever had! I've been eating from the Orient once a week! Crab ragoons, egg rolls, chicken noodle soup, wonton soup, lo mein, chow mein, shrimp toast, shrimp friend rice are all out of this world!!! 5 yummy stars!

Its good food, but nothing that knocks your socks off. The Tsou's chicken was crispy and not too spicy. The fried rice was good, but plain. The won-ton soup was so-so. Its probably a solid 3rd on my list of Chinese food restaurants in Perry Hall / White Marsh. The best thing I can say is that it wasn't too crowded, actually it was empty, and I left full and satisfied.

I was introduced to this place many years ago by my best friend. I was close-minded about sushi before, but was convinced to try it against my better judgement (at that time). I am pleased to say that thanks to The Orient, I very much like sushi. In fact, it's pretty much the only place I ever go when I want sushi. I've never been disappointed, either. There is one roll in particular that I always order. It's not on the menu, so you have to know to ask for it. It is called the 'Tommy Roll' (not sure whats in it, but it has a glaze on it, and its served hot), and it is without a doubt the most awesome roll The Orient, or anywhere else has ever made.

Disclaimer: I have only had one meal here, but it was very good. I was pooped, and looking for a quick dinner. I came here for some sushi rolls but found a dear little salad called "Avosashi." It was avocado and cucumber with the most heavenly miso dressing. I tried to re-create it at home but failed miserably. So, guess that means I am really looking forward to going back. The sushi was good, the service was fine, and the menu was quite extensive. If I recall, they had tempura and teriyaki along with the usual Chinese suspects.

This is the go to Chinese and sushi spot for the area. Huge portions, great prices, and BYOB. Have to try California Roll. It will change your mind about how they should be. The soups are great, too. Skip dessert of course.

Chinese Cuisine

The popularity of Chinese food in America can be adjudicated by the appearance of China Town in many major cities in the United State of America. The popular trend of ordering or opting for Chinese take away food isn't unknown in America. Chinese take away food comes to rescue when you're too tired from work or too exhausted to cook. No one can resist the temptation of eating spicy noodles, shrimp, chicken, beef or pork cooked in the sweet and spicy sauce. The cooking method of authentic Chinese food is a lot different compared to what is served in America.

Generally, Chinese use dark meat small bones and organs to cook dishes but this changes when you are eating American-Chinese fusion food prepared using white boneless meat cooked with broccoli, carrots and onions. Back in China, the food is less spicy and oily as they favor steaming and braising method for cooking the most popular dishes. So, if you have a taste for authentic Chinese food, then try finding a real Chinese restaurant in the city. You can also try the most popular fusion Chinese food like Pecking Duck, Chicken Feet, Hot Pot, Shrimp Dumpling Soup, Mapo Tofu, Wontons, Chop Suey, Egg Rolls and not to forget Fortune Cookies.

There are not many restaurants in America serving authentic Chinese food. A little research on Restaurant Listings directory can help you locate the best Chinese restaurants in the city. Chinese cuisine is continuously evolving, and you can find a variety of dishes categorized as the food for lactose intolerant, gluten intolerant, vegan, vegetarian, and diabetic friendly. So, if you have a group of friends with different taste patterns, save the hassle and visit the nearest Chinese restaurant in your city.
